Knesset approves 17-5
The decision has been made. July 20th 8000 people will be forced to leave their homes, forced to leave everything behind, so that Israel can give more of their land to homicide bombers, and settlers will have to live with the fact that because of the decisions of what is the only Jewish state in the world, their homes will be given to killers.

My heart truly does go out to the settlers, and the people of Israel, who are losing their land. As I have said before, I hope for better times.

Keeping an eye on Israel :-)
Hasidic Gentile writes about this cool map on a website called "Eye on Israel".
As I was checking out parts of Jerusalem, I realised what an idiot I am. I got lost so many times in Jerusalem in January. In fact, all I ever did was get lost. I even made new friends while trying to find my way to places! Why didn't it cross my mind to study a map first? These maps make it all look so simple. And it really isn't that hard. I'm just not the sharpest pencil in the box when it comes to finding places.

Just sad
I'm not even going to talk about Today's cabinet vote on the pullout.
I have a lot of thoughts, but all I will say is, that I hope the future holds better times than this for the land & people of Israel, despite the current mess.
Giving land for peace? Where has that gotten others?

A little on disengagement
I can't even begin to describe how depressed this disaster has me. That is, Ariel Sharon's disengagement plan. I just feel like crying my eyes out that it is the Israeli government that is permitting this horrible tragedy to occur. Don't they see what they're doing?
I recommend you all watch this video describing the situation of the Jews in Gush Katif - Gaza (Hat tip: Menorahblog)

Oh yeah..
Well you're not brainwashed or anything!
Young Hezbollah supporters shouting "Death to Israel and America" in Lebanon Saturday. (AP)

I'm not quite sure how I'd respond if I knew there were large numbers of people even younger than my little niece getting together all over the world shouting "death to Maria!". I might get somewhat used to it eventually, but I would never understand it. Unless of course I had actually done something wrong... But if that weren't the case? If they just wanted me dead because of my very existence?

How addicted to the world wide web are you?
Be sure to answer my new poll "how addicted to the internet are you?". Thanks.

On "Israel's Peculiar position"
Again I would like to mention how much I love this website Israelim.com, and I feel that it is a pity I did not discover it sooner. It covers a great deal of issues concerning Israeli matters, and I think that pretty much everyone interested in anything that has to do with Israel would find something to read there.
I have been meaning to post an interesting article I saw there for a while. This author is saying exactly what I myself am constantly trying to explain to people: How Israel is the "Jew among nations" (Bernard Lewis came up with that sentence though, I'm really not that articulate). If you don't agree with this article, then you don't agree with me! No but seriously, if you don't, I am going to allow myself to say that you're living in denial. This man makes perfect sense, and has written a butt kicking article. So check it out:

Israel's Peculiar Position

In 1968 the LA times ran this article, written by Eric Hoffer, a former longshoreman and non-Jewish American social philosopher. Born in 1902, Hoffer died in 1983, after writing nine books and winning the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Although written 34 years ago, the following is as timely and applicable today as then.

by Eric Hoffer
May 26, 1968

The Jews are a peculiar people: things permitted to other nations are forbidden to the Jews. Other nations drive out thousands, even millions of people, and there is no refugee problem. Russia did it, Poland and Czechoslovakia did it. Turkey threw out a million Greeks and Algeria a million Frenchman. Indonesia threw out heaven knows how many Chinese and no one says a word about refugees. But in the case of Israel displaced Arabs have become eternal refugees. Everyone insists that Israel must take back every single Arab.

Arnold Toynbee calls the displacement of the Arabs an atrocity greater than any committed by the Nazis.

Other nations when victorious on the battlefield dictate peace terms. But when Israel is victorious, it must sue for peace. Everyone expects the Jews to be the only real Christians in this world.

Other nations - when they are defeated - survive and recover, but should Israel be defeated it would be destroyed. Had Nasser triumphed last June he would have wiped Israel off the map and no one would have lifted a finger to save the Jews. No commitment to the Jews by any government, including our own, is worth the paper it is written on.

There is a cry of outrage all over the world when people die in Vietnam or when two Negroes are executed in Rhodesia. But when Hitler slaughtered Jews no one remonstrated with him. The Swedes, who are ready to break off diplomatic relations with America because of what we did in Vietnam, did not let out a peep when Hitler was slaughtering Jews. They sent Hitler choice iron ore and ball bearings, and serviced his troop trains to Norway.

The Jews are alone in the world. If Israel survives it will be solely because of Jewish efforts. And Jewish resources. Yet at this moment Israel is our only reliable and unconditional ally. We can rely more on Israel than Israel can rely on us. And one has only to imagine what would have happened last summer had the Arabs and their Russian backers won the war to realize how vital the survival of Israel is to American and the West in general.

I have a premonition that will not leave me; as it goes with Israel so will it go with all of us. Should Israel perish the holocaust will be upon us.

So do you guys reckon self hypnotism could work?
I hope this one doesn't freak ya all out too much.

Maria....

You will study study study
You love love love reading about African tribes and Inuits
You don't like the internet. You hate the internet. You stay away from it. Awayyyy
You like getting up early in the morning. You don't feel the slightest bit tempted to sleep late and miss class
Chocolate is not tasty. You don't need it.
(Coffee is okay though, I'm an understanding hypnotist).

Grumpy-Maria
I'm so damn grumpy today, and I don't know what is causing it. I don't know if it's the hail that I almost worry is going to put a crack in my windows, or all the little things in life that burden many a university student.

MSN conversation with ET today (slightly edited, to spare the innocent, or ehm, guilty):

Maria: Urgh damn it!
Friend: What?
Maria: What, do I have to explain this??
Friend: What, are you upset about something?
Maria: No! I'm not angry. Only 30 minutes ago I was in a GREAT mood!
Friend: I don't understand
Maria: I'm not feeling talkative. Sorry for being such a jerk.
Friend: I don't think you're a jerk
Maria: Hey don't you bullshit me! I know I am.
Friend: Hey I said you weren't a jerk
Maria: Ok
Friend: I'm sure it will be okay.
Maria: What do you mean? I don't understand
Friend: Heh, now you know how I feel!

A new layout
I received a couple of requests to change the color scheme of my website, due to the fact that it was making it hard for people to read. Since I am not one to turn down the requests of readers, I have now replaced the old layout with a new one. I would appreciate feedback on the new one, and whether this one generally agrees with people. Thanks.
